Puzzle Description

The Country Bus (G5037) by Trevor Mitchell is 4 x 500 puzzle box set. Each puzzle measures 49 x 34 cms.

There are four beautifully hand painted images all in one box. They all share the same theme: the travels of a country bus in four different locations in the English countryside throughout a summer's day. From the village square with the Saturday market (there appears to be a Bristol bus behind the Duple in the village square) , to picking up passengers on the village outskirts, to driving through country lanes and finally getting a glimpse of the passengers themselves we get a good look at the day's activities through the passengers aboard.

These four brilliant puzzles can be purchased at a fantastically competitive price compared to buying four separate 500 piece puzzles. Talk about value for your money.

The featured bus is, in fact, the 1949 Bedford Duple Coach. The Duple coach manufacturers started manufacturing buses as early as 1919 and closed in 1989. As can be seen from the puzzle pictures the bus was versatile and could hold up to about 30 passengers. They were narrow enough and had powerful enough engines to travel through country roads as well as highways and comfortably hold all those customers. The first Duple buses, like some world war II aircraft such as the Halifax Bomber, which Duple also built, had a wooden frame. Metal frames became the choice of the manufacturer after World War II.

The passengers and all those in the puzzles appear to be having a good time and are, amazingly, very nicely dressed. There is a distinct lack of Denim jeans and Hoodies.

Every conceivable detail abounds in the puzzle. In the market scene, for example, there are detailed old fashioned bicycles. Just look at the Pig and Whistle sign above the pub entrance. There is bunting attached to the roofs of the buildings and all the shoppers have brought their straw baskets. In the country scene the milk is still collected in large aluminium containers. Today milk is transported in large tankers. The sheep are causing havoc on the road but no one seems to be getting too upset.

Kevin Mitchell once again proves his eye for authentic and nostalgic detail.

The Country Bus (G5037) is a 4 x 500 box set and is made of 100% recycled premium board and can be made over and over again as if new.

About Trevor Mitchell

Trevor Mitchell began his career as a designer of brochure and advertising material at a London advertising agency after leaving Bradford Art College in 1979 with a diploma in Art & design. A few years later he returned to his native West Yorkshire and in 1986 was made redundant, when the design studio he was working for went into liquidation.

This was the moment that Trevor's life changed and he took the first steps towards becoming a self-sufficient artist. However, through the combination of raw talent and dogged Yorkshire persistence his paintings started to get notices.

The first breakout came when Trevor was asked to do some paintings of local West Yorkshire scenes for two calendars. Various other commissions followed, including a collection of pictured for greeting cards.

The next and most important development in Trevor's career came with the publication of his paintings as prints. One of the many publishers that Trevor has made contact with asked him if he could produce some illustrations depicting farming with steam. Trevor was delighted to accept the challenge, he had always had a fascination with steam traction and the paintings were very successful.

Following this, commission came in at a pace. His paintings for the Danbury Mint have been hugely successful including a series of pictures based on the women's Land Army of the second war.

Today, the subject matter of Trevor’s paintings is wide and varied, including farming scenes, tractors, vintage vehicles, railways and World War II aircraft.

Trevor is married with two children and lives in Shipley, West Yorkshire.
