Seaside (G3403) is a 500 jigsaw puzzle in the Gibsons catalogue in the Gift Collection. The artist is Emma Ball.

Each Gift Collection jigsaw puzzle is packaged in perfect jewel like boxes and measure approximately 6.25 inches x 6.25 inches x 3 inches. The actual puzzle measures approximately 19.25 inches x 13.25 inches.

The watercolor skills of Emma Ball are very obvious in this charming ode to the types of sights and sounds one might experience on a visit to the seaside. Rather than compose a vast coastline with tiny objects, Emma has chosen to go with the objects instead. Her tremendous facility with watercolors is both accurate and quite charming. The sea birds such as the gulls and waders are not missing any important detail. Emma has painted crabs and small sailing vessels with unerring bravura and detail. Who doesn't remember those beach huts in their bright and varied colors. Having recently taken a trip to Whitstable on the eastern part of the Thames estuary, I can attest to their vast numbers and variety of painted appearance. The huts are really only for a very short stay as their amenities are extremely limited. Unfortunately when I visited Whitstable they were mostly empty as it wasn't quite the season despite being July.

Deckchairs, bunting and lighthouses, despite being proportionately out of kilter complete this magical puzzle. The areas of consistent pale blue are sure to provide any puzzler with a keen challenge. The Gift Collection size of this box make it ideal as a gift. Anyone receiving it is sure to relive those precious times spent at a coastal resort often in sunshine accompanied by a salty breeze. What more invigorating experience is there than a walk along the sand, the seagulls screeching piercing the windswept, sea air?
