If you don't love purple this puzzle might not be for you. Still, the actual theme is all enduring: that of romace. Our young amorous couple are taking a walk along the Thames in London at sunset, or is that sunrise? The British Houses of Parliament and Big Ben are in the background and the river is to our left. Streaks of sunlight are bountiful and the whole thing might make you think twice. To the right there is a old fashioned red telephone box which are all but extinct, especially in London itself. If you do find a telephone booth in an urban location, chances are the phone doesn't work and the booth will be covered in ads for dubious partnerships. You will find working telephone booths in the countryside, especially in hilly locations where the internet and wifi has difficulty connecting. This is particularly true of Wales where there are many country locations that are out of touch.
The iconic red double decker buses are bustling about and are still in use after a period when they fell out of favour. Given London's street layout which is not like the more grid like pattern of north American cities, it was especially amazing to see some single deck buses made up of two compartments trying to negociate the jumble of roads and narrow streets of the capital. and now double deckers are back. That experiment failed and double deckers are back.
London is one of the world's most important global cities and has been called the world's most powerful, most desirable, most influential, most visited, most expensive, sustainable, most investment-friendly, and most-popular-for-work city. It exerts a considerable impact upon the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transportation. London ranks 26th out of 300 major cities for economic performance. It is one of the largest financial centres and has either the fifth- or sixth-largest metropolitan area GDP. It is the most-visited city as measured by international arrivals and has the busiest city airport system as measured by passenger traffic. It is the leading investment destination, hosting more international retailers than any other city. As of 2020, London has the second-highest number of billionaires of any city in Europe, after Moscow. In 2019, London had the highest number of ultra high-net-worth individuals in Europe. London's universities form the largest concentration of higher education institutes in Europe, and London is home to highly ranked institutions such as Imperial College London in natural and applied sciences, and the London School of Economics in social sciences. In 2012, London became the first city to have hosted three modern Summer Olympic Games. Much of the above marks of distinction will kave taken a serious blow of late and it is impossible to predict when things might get back to normal. The famous West End theatre district has suffered what many consider a fatal blow and it is unlikely that these theatres, especially the old ones where patrons sit in very cramped quarters, will ever recover.
