Puzzle Description
If you are looking for an 18th century English pastoral scene with wide grassy meadows painted in pale tones of brown and green harmoniously glowing under a temperate sun with frolicking maidens and the occasional cow where you can almost hear the quiet buzz of summer, then this Tony Ryan puzzle is not for you. This 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle which measures 68 x 49 centimeters, when complete, is a riot of colour and objects. It is called Nearly New and is also available as a 500 XL puzzle (G3527) which has the same dimensions as a regular 1000 piece puzzle.
Tony is an a genius at painting colours in the widest spectrum and manages to present us with hundreds of patterns and objects which are really clues for the experienced puzzler. Nearly New appears to be a collection of women's' clothing from another era. It's probably more fun trying out these hats than wearing them except for a party. Dad appears to have found an old piece of video equipment. He's probably wondering what it is. I can recall when small video cameras were all the rage and cost a fortune. Nowadays it's all taken care of by your cell phone.
Mum and her daughter are going through a trove of costume jewelry and could probably find some interesting items that could be worn even today. In the lower right of the picture there are several bangles and other items of various patterns and colours which will appeal to a real puzzler. There are handbags and dresses galore. Although the shoes may look interesting (are they platform shoes on the top right, next to the male bust wearing the safari hat?) who would wear them? There are suitcases and belts as well as a siphon next to an ice bucket and even some ice tongs. What is that red object with the dialler built into it? I believe that's called a telephone. You are supposed to pick up the handle, turn the circle with your finger to the appropriate numbers, put one end to your ear and then speak into the other end. How weird is that. Do you remember your first telephone number? Nostalgia galore!
You get the distinct impression that people dressed somewhat more formally in previous decades even if the clothing's patterns were brighter and more individual. There is an affinity to nature: just look at the woman's suit and dress hanging in the background. They look positively African inspired. This is a truly wonderful puzzle and will provide hours of fun for the avid hobbyist.
This puzzle is made from 100% recycled premium puzzle board and can be made time and time again.
