Inhabitants have lived on these damp islands for tens of thousands of years. The entire geographic area is never cold enough (or hot enough) to preclude human habitation. Being on the eastern edge of the warming effects of the Gulf Stream which starts in the Gulf of Mexico, Britain has always enjoyed a temperate climate which is moderate and damp. Artist Maria Rabinky, has given us all the natural and man made landmarks that Britain is known for, including Nessie, which remains definitively unknown but is nowadays tending towards being an invention of a fictional nature. That famous photograph with a snout sticking out of the water is an accepted fake. Like America's Sasquatch or the English corn circles which would appear from time to time in English fields, Nessie has become an established icon of Scottish myth.
From the Shetland Isles in the far north of Scotland, to the low entry along the Thames into London, Britain has always been easily approached by foreigners from the east who came in seek of fortune and expansion of their people's territories. The most famous of these aggressors would be the Romans and the Vikings. London was actually called Londinium under the Romans who found it tough going in the far north and decided to build, not one, but two stout walls to keep the Celts and the Picts out. Those walls, parts of which, still endure to this day today are the Antonine Wall and Hadrian's Wall. Even the gentler reaches to the south were not easily conquered and the second to last Caesar in the Julio-Claudian line of emperors, Claudius, managed his campaign from north west France (Gaul). His mighty general, Vespasian, was left to do the heavy military lifting in Britain. Vespasian went on to become the first Roman emperor after the fall of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. It was during the Flavian (Vespasian) dynasty that Rome had the first father to son imperial succession. The Colosseum in Rome was built during the Flavian regime and it was not until Imperial Rome under its first emperor, Augustus, that any marble, enduring and monumental architecture was erected. Before that Rome was constructed of flat fired red bricks and wood.
Beautiful Britain is made from 100% recycled premium board and can be made time and time again without showing any ill effects.
